Reading a story with Satomi at a showcase.

My work centres on ways that families and other care providers can support children, the creators of children’s cultures.  Because children’s cultures are the foundation of all cultures, our work with children in cultural co-construction is the root of future history.

I feel privileged to be involved in this process and cherish working with children, families and other care providers in the co-construction of cultural and community life, as I believe that the foundation of all cultures stems from children’s creative thought and social action.  Creativity and love are sacred gifts of human potential,  and should be cherished and shared with everyone.

My approach to early childhood education and care is community-centred.  When children, families and other care providers intentionally sustain communities of care and learning, centred on the values and practices of unconditional respect and universal dignity, we may work together in shared responsibility. This is how we ensure that the potential of every person is fully realized.

I believe that at the heart of such communities of care and learning is love and trust. I work hard to embody these values in every relationship of my child care work.

Projects

Focus on the Learning

  • Focus on the Learning offers early childhood educators with practical strategies and skills for teaching math, reading and science to children ages 3-5. ECE Learning Circles are workshops that focus on how to use games, stories, projects, and other activities for supporting children’s learning.

Liberation Learning

  • Liberation Learning connects communities of care and learning by sharing ideas, news and views of interest to British Columbia’s child care workforce.  We celebrate the creation of children’s cultures.
